Finger Painting

Inspired by Erin's post, I decided to try a little finger painting today. Try this with your sugar cookies. Our baby is too young to help, but I am sure kids would love helping with this, or just eating them.

Put cookie dough on pan and flatten each cookie (or make a big pan-sized cookie and flatten it out well). Cut a design out of wax paper (heart, star, letters, etc....) In a shallow dish, sprinkle some cinnamon and sugar. Lay paper on cookie and use your finger to "paint" over the design.
The following recipe is great for doing this since the dough is a little oily. It is also really, really easy.

My Husband's Favorite Cookies
Whisk the following together:
2 eggs,
2/3 Cup of oil (canola or vegetable),
2 teaspoons vanilla &
3/4 Cup sugar.
Now stir in:
2 Cups flour (all-purpose),
2 teaspoons baking powder (or "powders" as my Meemaw likes to say:))
1/2 teaspoon salt.

Chill about half an hour or longer. Scoop onto pan; sprinkle tops with sugar (or fingerpaint them as mentioned above).
Bake at 400 degrees.

Swim, Swim, Never Give In!!!!!

We're back home after spending some time at Camp teaching the Lifeguard class. We had a fun week and great weather! Only one cold day and the rest were HOT! No wetsuits, no raincoats, no blue lips.... No snakes either (although David did have an encounter with a fox who was chasing a cat.) The class did great and look like Olympic swimmers now thanks to Coach Dave's expert training. They did great at "the pond" too--the water was super low, so that made it pretty gross--lots of slipping and sliding in the mud and attacks from weeds. This was our 7th time to teach the class together! Time flies! We didn't get any pictures, so I added a picture of my mom-in-law at a swim meet last year. How fun is that???

Mr. T didn't help with the class--he went to puppy camp and had a lot of fun. We brought him by Camp on the way home and he got to play a little for old times sake. No getting muddy though--we skipped the creek and popsicles. Anyone remember Word of the Day with Mr. T?


We have a shower this Saturday and only about 2 months til the Baby's estimated arrival. We had a good Dr's appt. yesterday and then fun at Family Night with live music and the cow. We came home and swam some laps after that. The baby loves it and is going to be a swimmer for sure. Flip turns here we come!!!

A Fun and Busy Week!

Well, last week was a fun and busy week! We spent Tuesday and Wednesday at Michael's helping him pack up his house. I packed the kitchen and did a lot of watching as they loaded all the heavy boxes that I wouldn't have touched even if I wasn't 6 1/2 months pregnant! The highlight of the trip was watching David and Michael load the "Love Sack". Getting it through the door was quite a challenge and reminded us of something you would have done at youth Camp! (If you haven't seen the love sack, just imagine a gigantic, huge, enormous bean bag--and it is bigger than that.)

We got home reallly late on Wednesday night and had Drs appts on Thursday. Thankfully, all went well with my bloodwork and I survived my glucose screening test. Friday my great mom-in-law came in for a visit and we celebrated her birthday.


Saturday, Whitney, Flo (her mom), and Peggy gave me a great baby shower! Everyone blessed me with great advice, some amazing gifts and super fun fellowship with some old friends. There were great games too--guess the baby food (thankfully there was a rule against tasting the baby food), guess what type of chocolate bar is melted in each diaper and guess the number of Q-tips in the bottle. I didn't even come close to winning any of the games, but they graciously gave me the prizes anyway (Diapers, q-tips and wipes!!!!)

Happy Mother's Day to all you Moms, Aunts, Sisters, Teachers out there.

This is from Spurgeon's little book "Come Ye Children" and addresses all you ladies out there:

O dear mothers, you have a very sacred trust reposed in you by God! He hath in effect said to you, "Take this child and nurse it for Me, and I will give thee thy wages." You are called to equip the future man of God, that he may be thoroughly furnished unto every good work. If God spares you, you may live to hear that pretty boy speak to thousands, and you will have the sweet reflection in your heart that the quiet teachings of the nursery led the man to love his God and serve him. Those who think that a woman detained at home by her little family is doing nothing, think the reverse of what is true. Scarcely can the godly mother leave the home for a place of worship; but dream not that she is lost to the work of the church; far from it, she is doing the best possible service for her Lord. Mothers, the godly training of your offspring is your first and most pressing duty. Christian women, by teaching children the Holy Scriptures, are as much fulfilling their part for the Lord, as Moses in judging Israel, or Solomon in building the temple.

And another section on the importance of those little ones in your lives:

...Witnesses for God are often persons converted in their youth. He seems to take a delight to make these His special standard-bearers in the day of battle. Look at Samuel!
